Bio
My name is Colleen I Live in
Cairns Queensland Australia
After
spending 12 years in Sydney I returned to Queensland in
2000 and to Cairns in 2006.
I live
with my partner and my 2 dogs Mr Bob and Miss Tia who
are both pound puppies.
Having
always admired mosaics, I picked up a tile nipper for
the first time in September 2003 at a course where I
learned to cut glass tiles into traditional tesserae
shapes and sticking them to a board with tacky glue.
After leaving that particular course I knew that there
was more to mosaics than cutting 2cm x 2cm tiles with a
tile nipper.
I went
home and sought information on the internet. I found out
about how many different websites from around the world
there are and that drove my interest further. I found
the American Mosaic Artists forum and that was the first
step towards heading to where I am today with my
mosaics.
In 2004 I
was lucky to do a 2 day Course with Sandy Robertson from
Oz Mosaics who
is a well respected mosaic artist in Brisbane Queensland
Australia. She has helped me so many times when I have
been stuck with my work.
After learning a better adhesive
technique from Sandy it has allowed me to develop my
own individual style with many different mediums. I
really enjoy working adding texture to my mosaics which
I achieve with China. With each
piece I am gaining confidence that will lead me to
working doing mosaics on a full time basis.
In March
2005 I became a member of the Mosaic Artists Assoc. of
Australia.
A
member of Cairns Arts Society since 2007.
My artworks have
been on exhibition in Sydney, Gold Coast, Dalby and 3
Artist of the North Exhibitions in Cairns.
I hope
that you enjoy a selection of my works an look forward
to sharing more with you.
